How ITFSP plans to promote tree crops

  • Work towards policies and regulations that are favourable, such as fewer restrictions on transporting plants across borders.
  • Create functional systems of controlling, certifying and distributing tree crops.
  • Provide small-scale farmers with appropriate technical help and develop their horticultural skills. Farmers should be able to get the research, extension help and information they themselves want and need.
  • Establish high-value trees in rural areas, and maintain blocks of mother trees to assure good quality seed and stock.
  • Assure that smallholders and self-help groups have access to high-quality germplasm. Organize credit schemes to make it possible for them to purchase it.
